The Dark Knight star Christian Bale will not be charged following an alleged assault on his mother and sister, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed tonight.

The actor, 34, was arrested last month by officers investigating claims he became violent with his mother and sister during a family row.

A CPS spokesman said: “We can today confirm that we have advised the Metropolitan Police Service that the actor Christian Bale should not face any charges following an incident which occurred in relation to his mother and sister at the Dorchester hotel on 21 July this year.”

The CPS said they found “insufficient evidence” to support the reasonable prospect of a conviction.

Bale’s mother, Jenny, 61, and sister, Sharon, 40, made the complaint the day after the alleged attack. This was also the day of the European premiere of Bale’s latest film, The Dark Knight. Their claims were passed on to Scotland Yard, who questioned Bale the day after he attended the event in London’s Leicester Square.

The actor spent several hours at Belgravia police station on July 23 before being released on police bail. He has always denied the allegations.

Bale began his career early, taking the lead in the Steven Spielberg-directed Empire of the Sun when he was 12. His career has been consistently successful ever since, but, unusually for an A-list star, he has until now managed to avoid the tabloid limelight.

Bale’s parents, Jenny and David, split up when he was 13. Four years later, Bale joined his father in America while his mother and sisters remained in Bournemouth. It has been suggested that family relations remained rocky.

“Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister,” the actor’s reps said in the statement. “Mr. Bale who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale.”

BATMAN actor Christian Bale is to be quizzed by police after being accused of assault by his own mother and sister. Police allowed Bale to attend the UK premiere of The Dark Knight last night - despite the assault allegations.

The Sun says Bale is alleged to have lashed out on Sunday night at Park Lane’s swanky Dorchester Hotel - where he has a suite.

His mother Jenny, 61, and sister Sharon, 40, went to a police station in the UK yesterday to lodge a complaint, which is being investigated by London’s Metropolitan Police.

A Met Police spokesman said: “We can confirm we have received allegation from another force in relation to an alleged incident in central London.”

The allegation is the latest drama to surround the film.

In January Heath Ledger, who plays arch-villain The Joker, died from an accidental drug overdose aged just 28.

A special-effects technician was killed last September in a stunt car accident.

The new Batman movie “The Dark Knight” smashed the weekend record set by “Spider-Man 3″ last year, selling an estimated $155.3 million worth of tickets during its first three days of release across the United States and Canada, distributor Warner Bros. Pictures said on Sunday.

The hotly anticipated film, co-starring late actor Heath Ledger as the anarchic Joker, surpassed the $151.1 million haul for “Spider-Man 3″ during its first weekend in May 2007.
